Atmospheric water extraction or harvesting (AWH) is emerging as a potential solution to global water challenges, spanning from humanitarian and domestic drinking water needs to military operations or industrial water usage. Various industries, including beverage, healthcare, semiconductor, and data centers, are investing in research, pilot tests, and the integration of AWH into their water portfolio to achieve net-zero water footprints.

Breakthroughs in material science, thermodynamics, and integrated process engineering are advancing AWH as an economical solution to be a new water source for these applications. The water quality produced by AWH is emerging as a new research area requiring attention.

The third annual International Atmospheric Water Harvesting Summit was created to explore new technical or systems solutions, review progress of pilot-testing, understand how policy and regulatory barriers are being removed, and assess progress along a AWH roadmap. To this end the theme for the Summit will be “Beachhead AWH Materials and Applications”, and we are planning on sessions around:
o Water production rates and energy efficiency – from lab, pilot, full-scale approaches
o Innovative materials and system innovations
o Thermodynamics and waste heat
o Process engineering and reactor designs
o Microclimate, air quality and geospatial considerations
o Applications: from humanitarian and food/agriculture to data centers and dehumidification
o Policy and regulations to support AWH adoption
o Young scholar leadership and innovation in the field of AWH
o AWH Roadmapping, LCA, TEA progress

The International Atmospheric Water Harvesting Association (https://www.iawha.org/) was started in 2025 to be a central hub for the growing AWH industry, consolidating information and fostering collaboration among scientists, engineers, manufacturers, and users. Its formation was driven by the increasing use of AWH in residential/humanitarian drinking water, industrial ultrapure water, cooling tower water recovery, agricultural water and dehumidification to reduce HVAC costs, the need for standardized information in a competitive market, and the desire to promote AWH as a revolutionary, environmentally friendly alternative to other water resupply approaches. The IAWHA aims to serve as a worldwide gathering point for sharing research, technology, and practical applications of AWH technology.

The IAWHA is a nonprofit educational and scientific organization dedicated to the collection and dissemination of information on, and to promote research in, any and all aspects atmospheric water harvesting and related collection of water vapor from the air technologies. As a member, you’ll gain access to the most cutting-edge information on atmospheric water harvesting technology.
